A chilly, started off wet weekend in November out at Detroit Lake State Park.
The park is just outside of Detroit, Oregon, a small town that caters to summer activities on the lake. Detroit is nestled in the Santiam Pass off Highway 20. Its about a 2 hour drive from Portland and takes you through some beautiful country. Small towns from Oregons lumber hay day greet you as you near the State Park.
The Park itself is one of Oregons larger State Parks. It offers full hook ups, boat launches, swim areas, and a little store. The park has 300 camping sites. 107 of which are full hook up sites. There are also shower houses and bathrooms in each loop of the park.
The State park is a short drive from Detroit, where in the summer season there is always a lot to do and see. www.detroitlakeoregon.org
Camping in the off season at Detroit Lake State park is a gem. They only have 2 loops open, but the amenities are all still there. The traffic is next to nothing and the park is quiet. The state keeps a small staff at the park in the off season, but they are friendly and willing to meet your needs.
We like heading out to Detroit Lake State park, it is certainly on our go back to list and we head out there at least once each year.
If you are ever out near Salem, take the short drive out to Detroit Lake. Even for the day you will be glad you did.
Thanks for checking in with us.
